As evidenced by recent FCC and TENAA listings, Samsung is working on a lite version of its popular Galaxy S8 smartphone, nicknamed the "Galaxy S8 Lite".

When the content of the listings was leaked, we had our first glimpse of the design of the device.

To that end, the S8 Lite virtually looks like its more powerful predecessor, placed controversial fingerprint sensor and all. As the Phone Arena notes, however, the rear heart rate monitor seems to be missing this time.

The technical specifications of the S8 Lite are where the differences between the two devices become more apparent. The S8 and S8 Lite both have identical 5.8-inch screens, but Lite's resolution will reach a maximum of 2220x1080p, a significant drop from the S8's 2960x1440p resolution.

From a performance point of view, the S8 Lite will probably be slower because of its old Snapdragon 660 chip. In comparison, the S8 housed a Snapdragon 835 processor.

However, the storage space and the battery life are reasonable, sitting respectively at 64 GB and 3,000 mAh. The RAM capacity of the S8 Lite is 4 GB, the same volume as the S8 by default.

As for the camera of the S8 Lite, it will contain a 16mpx "low-end" lens.

The first photos of the front and back of the S8 Lite were released earlier this week in the TENAA list mentioned above, but additional press releases (shown above) appeared on Wednesday. The renderings reveal that the phone will come in at least two colors, "Red Burgundy" and Black.

If you're eager to get your hands on what will probably be a cheaper version of Samsung Galaxy S8, you might not be lucky for the moment. As of date of writing, the company has not revealed any release date for the S8 Lite.
