What just happened? Segway, the company behind the famous two-wheeled carrier, adds a new product to its range of self-balancing machines: electric roller skates. The Drift W1 e-Skates will be officially unveiled at the IFA show in Berlin next August, but the company has released a trailer giving us an overview of the devices.

The skids use Segway's gyroscopic balancing technology that's found in the Human Transporter since 2002. It allows each skate to have only one wheel rather than the only one. set of four traditional roller skates.

Segway claims that black and white devices are "easy to carry, light and small". And while video users are spinning and spinning with ease, one might wonder how safe the DW1 e-Skates are.

You may notice that the feet of the users are not attached to the skates. While this allows you to jump if something goes wrong or in the case of an impending crash, it will probably drop, while moving much more likely.

Segway has not published specifications, so there is a question about the type of reach that motorized skids can handle.

These are not the only motorized skates with a spinning wheel. The InMotion Hovershoes X1 looks a lot like the Segway product and could give us an idea of what to expect with the Drift W1. They have a maximum range of 7 miles, a maximum speed of 7 mph, and a pre-order price of $ 499. If you want something cheaper and more stable, there are two-wheeled RocketSkates for $ 99.
