The Google autumnal material event will be filled to the brim with new gadgets. Aside from the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, one can also expect to see second generation Pixel Buds and, according to Evan Blass, a Google brand smartwatch.
Like other devices, the laptop will appear to arrive under the umbrella Pixel. Blass said on Twitter that a reliable source has provided information with great confidence.
This is not the first time that Google is linked to a smartwatch rumor. Reports date back to 2013, suggesting that Google was working on a wristwatch, although in retrospect, these reports could have referred to Wear OS (formerly known as Android Wear). More recently, Google would have developed two smartwatches for launch in 2017 although, as we now know, neither one nor the other has materialized.
This is a pivotal period for the smartwatch industry. Several manufacturers have reduced their offerings in recent memory, but Google apparently considers it an opportunity to finally enter the market. If and when Google does not jump on the train, there will be fierce competition from companies like Apple and Fitbit.
Apple, for example, has sold about 16 million units in 2017 according to CCS Insights. Wearing bone devices have lost momentum, the company said, predicting that just under five million units will be selling in 2018.
