Google's productivity-focused Chromebook devices primarily target students, teachers, and occasional web browsers, but the company has expanded its functionality a little longer.

On the occasion of their keynote I / O 2018 today, Google unveiled its latest attempt: Chromebooks will soon have the opportunity to launch Linux applications, which should pave the way for a development of Linux and Android applications simplified.

To be clear, it does not seem that Chromebooks have restrictions on their choice of Android and Chrome applications, Linux applications will simply be an additional option for users who wish to take advantage of them.

Unfortunately, if you're a Chromebook owner and a Linux fan, you may have to wait a bit to test your favorite apps. The new feature of the Linux application will initially only be available to those who own the expensive Google Pixelbook.

Although it is possible for Google to make this decision to entice other people to buy a Pixelbook, there could be another explanation.

As Engadget points out, the compatibility of the Linux application of Google will go through the technology of virtual machines, which, as any software developer can attest, often requires a lot of system.

Since the Pixelbook is currently the most powerful device in Google's Chromebook lineup, limiting functionality to those who own it is a pretty good decision in theory.

Once the feature is tested more thoroughly and optimized over time, Google will inevitably launch Linux application compatibility with the Chromebook-owning audience.
