Several people shot at New York Bronx Lebanon hospital, Cops say: Live updates

5:49 p.m. O'Neill said the first 911 calls reported that a man fired a gun on the 16th floor. Patrol units answered and decided that it had shot several people on the 16th and 17th floors.
The police found that the suspect was armed with an assault rifle. Officials initiated an active shooter protocol.
5:43 pm - New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said fire and police officers responded to the report of an active shooter at 2:50.
During the incident, the hospital's alarm was activated, apparently because the suspect was trying to set himself on fire, O'Neill said.
Officers found the Gunman dead from an apparent bullet wound on the 17th floor of the hospital, O'Neill said. He wore a white, medical coat.
They also found a female shot dead. De Blasio identified her as a doctor.
Six more victims were found and transported into the trauma room, five with severe injuries and one with a shot wound to the leg, O'Neill said.
O'Neill did not identify the gunman, but said he was a former employee of the hospital. CBS New York has the Gunman as Dr. Henry Bello.
5:32 AM - "We had a real tragedy here in the Bronx this afternoon," said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio at a Friday press conference. De Blasio praised the first responders "running at risk" and the hospital staff who responded with "extraordinary bravery".
"Even in the midst of this horror there were many, many deeds of heroism," said de Blasio.
5:30 pm - The late victim was also a doctor, reports CBS News' Len Tepper.
5:28 p.m. - CBS News' Len Tepper reported that the gunman was released from his position in the hospital to harass an employee. When he came to the hospital, he could not find these employees and started shooting at Tepper.
The incident includes seven people, reported Tepper - 6 victims and the shooter. The gunman with one of the victims is dead.
5:15 pm - FBI New York tweeted the shooting in New York Bronx Lebanon hospital has no obvious Nexus to terrorism.
5:05 am - The 120-year-old hospital has nearly 1,000 beds and one of the most traffic-rich emergency rooms in New York City, reports the Associated Press. It is about a mile and a half north of Yankee Stadium.
In 2011, two people were shot dead in Bronx Lebanon, police said, was a gangs attack.
5:03 AM - Garry Trimble told CBS New York's Andrea Grymes, his fiance works in the hospital and was ordered to stay in when shots rang at about 3 o'clock. He said she called him to tell him what had happened, and he hurried to the scene.
"I told her that they just lie quietly and remain calm and say nothing," said Trimble.
He said his fiance was desperate.
"She cried and she said," Someone is going around, and we've locked ourselves in, we've barricaded ourselves in the room with the employees, "he said.
4:56 am - Dr. Henry Bello was identified as a family doctor in the hospital on his website. Witness Gonzalo Carazo also said CBS New York Bello worked in hospital in family medicine.
It was not immediately clear why he was no longer working in the hospital, according to the Associated Press.
4:49 am - Robert Maldonado, an EMT, was in the hospital to transport a patient when the incident occurred, CBS reports New York. Maldonado told the station that he and his partner saw a victim suffering from a bullet wound on the ninth floor of the building. They pressed on the wound.
Because the elevators did not work, Maldonado said he, his partner and his police had carried the victim nine stairs into the trauma room on the first floor.
4:46 am - CBS New York reports six confirmed victims.
4:41 am - CBS News' Len Tepper confirms a victim is dead.
4:32 p.m. - Witness Gonzalo Carazo, who works in the hospital, told CBS New York, he smelled smoke and was told that the hospital was on lockdown. He said I saw a doctor with a gunshot on his hand.
"I have not heard any shots, all I heard was the doctor who said," Help, help, "said Carazo.
Carazo said he was barricaded in a room for about 15 minutes before the prosecution came to accompany him and others down the stairs and the building.
"It was hot, and I was nervous," said Carazo. "I've seen blood on the stairs."
4:31 p.m. - The Associated Press reports that the police say the gunman pulled a gun out of his white lab coat, killed at least one person and wounded others before she obviously took his own life.

Dr. Henry Bello, a former employee at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital, reports CBS New York Reena Roy. Four to six people were shot, and others suffered mild injuries that were trying to leave the building, the station reported.
4:12 p.m. - A patient on the tenth floor of the hospital told CBS New York outside the building a "code red" alarm went off and he barricaded himself in his room. He was later evacuated with other patients. He said he had not heard any shots.
4:07 am - CBS New York reported that 4 -6 people have gunshot wounds and other injuries.
4:01 p.m. - J. Peter Donald, a NYPD spokesman, confirmed on Twitter the shooter is "deceased in hospital".

3:55 pm - CBS New York Reporter Reena Roy tweeted that the NYPD has confirmed that the shooter is down and no longer a threat.
3:53 pm - CBS New York Reporter Reena Roy tweeted that the shooter has believed to have worn a white lab coat.
3:47 p.m. - Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Trump was aware of the incident. Federal agents from the office for alcohol, tobacco and firearms react to the scene, the office tweeted.
ORIGINAL STORY - Police in New York City responds to a report of shots being fired at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital, CBS New York reports.
The incident started shortly before 3 o'clock. At 173rd Street and Grand Concourse in the Mt. Eden section of the Bronx.
CBS New York reports that the police have shot two people on the 16th floor of the hospital.
CBS New York reporter Reena Roy tweeted that the police go ground to the ground in the hospital in search of the shooter who is believed to have a gun and has allegedly been barricaded. The police believe the gunman is a former employee of the hospital, reports Roy.
