TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2017 (HealthDay News) - A new distance record for the delivery of blood samples by a medical drone has been put in place.
A drone from the Johns Hopkins University carried dozens of human blood samples through 161 miles of the Arizona desert. During the three hours of flight, the temperature control was maintained and the samples were used for laboratory tests after reaching their destination.
"We believe that in many cases drone transport will be the fastest, safest and most efficient option for delivering biological samples to a rural or urban laboratory." Release. Amukele is an assistant professor of pathology at Johns Hopkins.
He noted that drones can work where there are no roads and overcome barriers to timely diagnosis and care.
"Drones are likely to be the best medical delivery system of the 21st century," Amukele said.
The results were published recently in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology .
