Something to Hope: With very little new information on Borderlands 3 and Gearbox promising none to the E3, fans may be surprised to hear an ad on a port of the original game. A dashboard apparently noted Borderlands: GOTY Edition for current generation systems.
Since porting Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 to the current generation of material via The Handsome Jack Collection, fans have wondered, "Hey, what about the original Borderlands?"
Indeed, since the franchise's first game falls chronologically between The Pre-Sequel and 2, it makes no sense that it is not dusted off and included in the collection. Even a standalone version should have been obvious for 2K Games and Gearbox. I'm sure I'm not the only one paying for reliving the first adventure on today's generation gear.
If rumors circulate, our wish may soon be granted. According to Gematsu, the Korean Game Rating Board has ranked a title called "Borderlands: Game of the Year". The list shows that the game is for PS4, XB1, and PC. Gearbox has not mentioned anything about a port being developed.
However, it would be logical for developers to plan a reissue. Not only is this a financially sound decision, but it will also give them something to present at the E3 2018. According to the IGN, Randy Pitchford insists that they will not offer any new information on Borderlands 3 at the Expo this year. The last time we had an official word, it was at GDC 2017 when Pitchford showed a technical demo (above).
Without a B3E3 presentation (yes I just invented that you're welcome Gearbox), all the studio has to talk about We Happy Few and an unnamed Duke Nukem title. A reboot of Borderlands would fill their showcase well since they do not want to share any updates from B3.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but having a Borderlands bone to cast anxious fans would go a long way in suppressing the crowd while waiting for the third chapter of the franchise. I can not think of anything better than a restart of the game that has triggered everything.
Whatever it is, we do not have long to wait. The Electronic Entertainment Expo will begin in a little over a week on June 12. If a port arrives, we will hear about it, especially since the game has already been evaluated by at least one evaluation board.
