If you thought that there was not much room for improvement in the Google News platform, the search giant is eager to prove you wrong. According to a recent report from AdAge, the company is in the process of completely overhauling its News service.

This redesign will transform News visuals and "incorporate elements" from the YouTube news section, according to anonymous sources.

Sources also claim that Google Play Newsstand - the company's magazine and newspaper subscription platform - will actually be closed, and that its features should be absorbed by Google News.

If the concept of a redesign of the News sounds a bit unfamiliar to you, it's probably because Google did something similar in June 2017. Indeed, at the time, Google has reduced the visuals of the new platform "Philosophy of Design."

It's unclear what the upcoming redesign will look like, but it will apparently contain Google's "Accelerated Mobile Page" (AMP) technology. For those who do not know, AMP is a form of fast-loading website technology that, as its name suggests, aims to dramatically reduce the loading times of web pages on mobile devices.

Although these changes are also reflected on Google News for desktop computers, news on mobile devices could get the best part of the market in the form of a brand new application.

To be clear, all this information is still not confirmed by Google, so approach the leak with some skepticism.

Still, we will not have to wait long to find out. Sources say Google will announce these changes next week at their annual developer conference. In the meantime, we have asked the company to provide us with their comments.
