Discussion apps like Signal and Telegram aim to attract users with the promise of confidentiality, and it seems that they do so with great success if the rather positive user reviews are good to make. .

Telegram accomplishes this task by encrypting end-to-end messages, while Signal boosts confidentiality by automatically deleting your messages.

Unfortunately for Mac fans, the application may not be as private as they think.

According to Motherboard, although Signal effectively protects your calls and messages in general, the Mac application has some privacy issues related to its notification system.

The default Mac notification settings for Signal will display messages received from your friends in the notification bar of your device, even if those messages have been officially deleted in the application.

The security researcher, Alec Muffet, told Motherboard that he was worried about "where does Apple's operating system [Signal's]" live and where it was located. he was hidden or written somewhere where he could be consulted later.

Another security researcher, Patrick Wardle, reportedly found that these messages can actually be retrieved later if they appeared as a notification because they are simply "stored on a disk" in the system. ; operating.

Since Signal is commonly used for conversations of a particularly sensitive nature, it will probably be a disturbing development for many.

Fortunately, Motherboard says that there is an easy solution to this problem: you just have to visit the Mac notification settings of Signal and check the "Neither name nor message" option to alleviate the problem .
