Less than a week ago, Google rolled out a revamped version of Gmail containing self-destructing messages, a repeat option and more. Now, it is the time of Microsoft.
The Outlook team introduced this week a host of new Outlook features for Windows, Mac, the web and collectively designed mobile devices to help you better manage your time.
Like the management of travel bookings and package delivery notifications, Outlook.com receives billing reminders. The platform will identify incoming invoices received by e-mail, present a summary card at the top of your e-mail and add a calendar event that coincides with the due date. Outlook can even send you a reminder email two days before the due date so you will not forget.
Outlook for Windows and iOS now makes it easy to add a meeting or event location, suggesting rooms and locations already in use and even pinging Bing to get help. On iOS, suggestions take into account your location, the list of attendees, the time of the proposed meeting, traffic updates and much more to help you book the event and make sure you get there on time.
More catering for business users, Outlook now keeps track of events that you have organized or plan to attend. Keeping an eye on other participants, Microsoft says that guest attendees can better manage their time and decide whether they should attend or let a colleague do business. And, if you're dealing with appointments and meetings across multiple time zones, Outlook can now handle that as well.
Elsewhere, Outlook for Android and iOS now supports companies that use SOCKS proxies for added security. In addition, in Outlook for Windows, there is now a copy protection to the blind to avoid potentially embarrassing e-mail responses that could be seen by all recipients.
Outlook for iOS also adds support for syncing draft messages, which allows you to start a message on a mobile device and finish it at your desk (or vice versa). This feature is already available on Windows, Mac and Android and will be available on Apple's mobile platform this month.
Outlook for Android, meanwhile, gets Office Lens support this month. Thanks to it, you can quickly and easily capture a whiteboard, document or photo and integrate it into your e-mail. Look for this feature to also arrive this month.
