Spotify allegedly reorganized the hate content policy following the artist's reaction

Spotify earlier this month announced a new controversial policy regarding hate content and hateful conduct. In a nutshell, the streaming music platform reserved the right to remove offensive content from its platform at its discretion or at least to refrain from promoting the content of artists and creators who have demonstrated hateful conduct in their personal lives.

The backlash of the deliberately vague policy was apparently a bit more than negotiated Spotify.

Sources who have knowledge in the field tell Bloomberg that Spotify told artists, managers, and record label directors that he will add XXXTentacion songs again to his promoted playlists. The rapper, who was once accused of mistreating a pregnant woman, would have been one of the first artists affected by the new Spotify policy.

R. Kelly was also singled out by Spotify earlier this month.

Bloomberg reports that changes to the recent policy are still under development and that there is currently no plan to start promoting R. Kelly's music again.

According to the report, representatives of several artists, including Kendrick Lamar, contacted Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify, and Troy Carter, artist relations manager, to express their frustration with this policy. Some would have even threatened to withdraw their work from the platform if the case was not rectified.

Sources say Carter planned to leave Spotify during the test, but has since agreed to stay after Ek assured him that changes would be made.
