What just happened? One of the four men with links to Yahoo's security hole has been brought to justice. The other three, including two officers of the Russian Federal Security Service, are still at large.

A Toronto man was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $ 250,000 for involuntarily working with a Russian spy agency and using stolen data in the huge security breach from Yahoo to access private accounts. ]

23-year-old "international hacker" Karim Baratov pleaded guilty to nine criminal hacking charges last November. Baratov, who was born in Kazakhstan but lived in Toronto, allegedly charged clients $ 100 for hacking email accounts on the Web.

Prosecutors said the Russian Federal Security Service paid Baratov to hack at least 80 email accounts.

Deputy Attorney General Demers said that hackers and their sponsoring countries make a big mistake when they target US companies and citizens, adding that they would identify them no matter what. where and would bring them to justice.

Baratov was arrested in Canada in March 2017 and transferred to the Northern District of California in August. He has been detained since his arrest and is the only one of the four individuals arrested so far after being indicted by the United States Department of Justice last year.

Prosecutors believe that the two Russian spies, Dmitry Aleksandrovich Dokuchaev and Igor Anatolyevich, live in Russia. The country has no extradition treaty with the United States.

Baratov reportedly told US Judge Vince Chhabria that his stay in prison was a revealing experience and a lesson in humility and promised to become a "better man" upon his release. He will probably be deported once his time has been served, the judge said.
