Today, at Computex 2018, we went looking for AMD B450 motherboards, but by visiting the MSI booth, we found another very interesting motherboard, which I'll come back to in a moment. . For the moment let's focus on these elusive B450 motherboards. AMD released its second-generation Ryzen processors alongside the new X470 chipset a few weeks ago, and while we were expecting B450 motherboards to appear soon after, like in a few days or weeks, that's not the case. is never produced.

In fact, AMD has not yet officially announced the B450 chipset, but some partners of the motherboard have presented boards on the show. At the heart of the MSI booth, we found the motherboard section and, proudly exhibited, the B450 Tomahawk and the B450-A Pro.

Although they only had two B450 cards at Computex, MSI told us that we can expect a full range of cards to be available soon. Both models exhibited 4 + 2-phase VRM, which means you really only want to overload Ryzen 6-core and lower-level processors. That said, we imagine that if you are serious about overclocking parts of Ryzen 7, you will probably get your hands on a new X470 card like the X470 Gaming Pro Carbon, for example.

While we expect better BIOS support with B450 cards, a big advantage is that all models support second-generation Ryzen processors. In addition, support for future processors without proper BIOS will not be a problem with MSI B450 cards because they all have a BIOS back button on the I / O panel, which means allows the user to update the BIOS.

MSI has confirmed that this feature will be supported by all B450 motherboards on their range, even the most affordable models. We imagine that this will become a standard MSI feature regardless of the chipset, which is certainly good news for builders and consumers alike.

At the time of writing these lines, MSI has not published any pricing information, but we expect the B450 models to register at the same prices as comparable B350 models. MSI told us that availability is scheduled for next month and it is at that time that you can expect to see reviews.

Aside from the BIOS flashback function, the only other notable updates for these upcoming models are the repositioning of the M.2 port and the Tomahawk with two additional SATA ports. We will test the B450 motherboards when they are released next month to see how they differ from the existing B350 models, although we do not expect much.

The motherboard that really caught our attention was the X399 creation, and what an incredibly bestial creation. We can safely say that we have already seen a motherboard that looks something like this before, the broken glass chipset design and the M.2 heat sink is certainly very present, but we must admit that we think that It's pretty cool. For now, the full name is MEG X399 Creation, but we told MSI to drop the MEG part and it looks like they're following our advice.

The highlights of the X399 Creation in addition to the striking looks include a 19-channel digital VRM fool powered by a pair of 8-pin power connectors, four PCIe x16 slots, 8 SATA ports, three M.2 slots full speed with four others via an extension card provided with the board.

MSI calls it the Xpander-AERO and it's a PCIe x16 card that supports four additional M.2 NVMe SSDs that are cooled by a large aluminum heatsink with active cooling, basically it looks like to a Mini ITX graphics card so that's very cool. We will need to store M.2 drives to really test this thing.

The X399 Creation contains many features, the single I / O panel includes 10 USB ports including a Type-C port and four Gen2 3.1 ports. There are two Gigabit LANs using Intel controllers, an Intel 9260 module supporting WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0. MSI also included a clear CMOS button and a BIOS flashback on the I / O panel.

The 19-phase VRM really caught our eye and we saw some new X399 motherboards at this year's show, all equipped with extreme VRMs. We were almost expecting to see new X499 cards for the next generation of Ryzen Threadripper, but it looks like X399 will stay a little longer. With these new X399 motherboards that embark on such power delivery capabilities, we have to wonder how many hearts the updated Threadripper processors will pack, hopefully we'll get a word on this very soon.

MSI claims to target professionals and content creators in particular with this motherboard as its name suggests. So it's great to see an X399 board without "Gaming" in the title, it makes a lot more sense. MSI did not make RGB disappear. Overall, we have some new motherboards to look forward to, expect the B450 cover next month, while the X399 Creator will not be ready until the end of the year.
