The Ring Home Security Company specializes in ... well, home security. The company, which debuted as Doorbot in 2012, has developed a successful line of video doorbell products that provide peace of mind to its many users.

With Ring's new independent Voisins app, it's easier than ever to help create a safer community.

Neighbors is intended to facilitate real-time communication between neighbors, Ring team and law enforcement. Think of it as a neighborhood watch for the modern era. If something fishy happens (say, for example, that you catch someone stealing a parcel on your doorstep or are trying to kick your door), you can post it in the app with text, photos and / or video conversely, see other reports in your area).

Amazon acquired Ring earlier this year. The terms of the agreement have not been published, although, according to one source, Bezos and the company have paid more than $ 1 billion for the former rejection of Shark Tank.

To get started, simply download the free Neighbors application on your Android or iOS device and register to join your neighborhood. Note that you will have to check your location, which means that you can not simply join random neighborhoods all over the country.

Ring is one of many companies that focus on hyperlocal information sharing. In January, Google launched its Bulletin app that joins others like Nextdoor in the same category.
